About our Blacksmithing Club
Did you know that the ancient craft of blacksmithing is alive and well in western Wisconsin? If you are interested in
learning more about it or in becoming involved in this interesting craft, read on.
Here in western Wisconsin, The Badger Blacksmiths club was formed in 2001 and now has about 50 members.
We demonstrate our craft at many of the threshing shows and historical reenactments in the area from the St.Croix river
on the west to about as far east as Black River Falls, and from about Lake Superior on the north to about 50 miles south
of I 94.
Demonstrating at local events
Many of our members find it fun to bring their equipment to an event and demonstrate their skills.
Our goal is to expose as many folks as we can to the blacksmithing craft that is so deeply entrenched in our heritage.
To find out where we will be demonstrating next, click the "Contact" link, above.
Our Monthly Meetings
A program in some phase of blacksmithing is presented to the members at the club's monthly potluck meetings.
They move from place to place within our area. Meetings are filled with informal hot-forging sessions and with
conversations between members as they share their accomplishments and techniques with each other.
The new member, as well as the not-so-new member, can find at these meetings a vast wealth of information.
Our members are always willing, and even eager, to share their knowledge with other blacksmiths and blacksmiths-to-be.
Our Annual Blacksmithing Conference
The most popular activity of the club is the annual Conference. This event is a weekend filled with demonstrations and
hands-on activities in blacksmithing, modern iron working and best of all, volumes of good fellowship.
Currently, it is held over the Memorial Day weekend, just south of Eau Claire, Wisconsin at the Pioneer Park threshing
show grounds.
Blacksmithing Education Opportunities
The Badger Blacksmiths offers formal learning experiences to its members, as well as to the community at large,
in the form of blacksmithing workshops. The contents of the workshops include subjects such as basic and advanced
blacksmithing, tool making, hammer making, art & design, animal heads, bladesmithing and forge welding.
Newsletter
Our monthly newsletter keeps members abreast of current happenings, presents tips, techniques, new ideas and has a
classified ad section for those who are looking for equipment as well as those who have it to sell or to trade.
